HOW TO TAN YOUR HANDS AND FEET THE CORRECT WAY

The hands and feet are known to be every girls nightmare when tanning and unfortunately these two areas are the biggest tell-tale giveaways of fake tan wearers. There are a number of reasons why it is more difficult to apply fake tan to the feet and hands:

The skin is drier on these parts of the body. There are more joints and where the skin creases product can get caught creating a build-up. The under part of the feet and hands don't tan so you need to blend the colour evenly to make it look natural. These hazards are present whether you are applying fake tan by yourself or having a spray tan, so how do you get a perfect natural looking tan around the feet and hand areas? Here are our recommendations for a perfect finish every time:

Step 1 – PREPARATION

Before tanning, use a moisturiser, apply between the fingers, the backs of the wrists, on the knuckles, toe and heels, as well as around the ankles. This helps your tan glide on.

Step 2 – TANNING

HANDS:

We suggest to leave the hands and feet process last. Using a mitt is also key.  Apply your tan to your limbs and torso using the mitt. Rather than applying more product, use the excess tan left on the mitt for your hands and feet.

FEET:

To tackle your tootsies, exfoliate and moisturise them first. Then, apply self tan to your mitt and place it flat on the top of your foot. From there, blend back and under the ankle bone, along the sides and over the ankle bones. If you're in a hurry, spray the tops of your feet with a tanning mist where the sun would hit - just make sure you're standing on a dark towel, unless you fancy bronzing your bathroom floor in the process.

CLEAN UP-

Don’t forget to do a little clean up after your tanning session! Once you’ve swiped your tan onto your hands, grab a baby or makeup wipe and work it over your palms, in between your fingers and over your finger and toenails. These are the places you’d never tan, so it will look bizarre if any product develops on there.

A FEW EXTRA TIPS-

When tanning your hands & feet, imagine you’ve been on a beach holiday for two weeks. The sun will only hit the tops of your feet and hands, and the bottom half of the sides will remain untanned.

Apply your tan with this thought in mind, blending halfway down the sides. Then wipe away any tan lines with a dry cloth to help give a sun-kissed finish. Always work away from the nail bed, back up the limb and blend at the ankle and wrist. Use a wipe to remove excesses from the knuckles and in between your fingers and toes.
